Australia's Next Top Model Auditions - Even If You Are Not Reed Thin You Can Apply

Sarah Murdoch the new host of Australia's Next Top Model says that her aim is to find a plus size superstar model.

In an article in the Daily Telegraph Mrs Murdoch said:
"I am really pushing for a plus-size model this series because I am a big
believer in healthy body types and encouraging girls to be the right body type,"
the Bonds ambassador said.
"It's not about getting an overweight girl but
someone who is healthy because one size doesn't fit all."
America's Next Top Model has had plus size contestants on the show for quite a few seasons. On the season currently being screened on Fox 8, plus size model Whitney is staying in the competition just by her fake fingernails.

A plus size model is not really fat, but is of 'normal' body shaped and they model plus sized clothes. Needless to say there is a big market in the US for them.
Whitney from ANTM

It will be interesting see how far a plus sized model will be able to go in the Australian series. It would be hilarious if they won as Kirstie Clements would have to give her a photoshoot in Vogue. Quelle horror.

The auditions for the show commenced in Sydney yesterday, and Tim Brunero on Livenews has amusing interviews with some of the girls to auditioned at Westfield Parramatta.

I am sure there was some serious editing to make them ditsier than they actually are. Well I hope so.

What Is It With This Year's Idol's And Their Victim Mentality

Thanh Bui the latest Australian Idol Contestant eliminated believes the judges were really hard on him.

This follows on from Tom William moaning that he was eliminated not from lack of talent but because the judges were biased against him. Previous post here.

What is wrong with these guys where they are so deluded they think the judges are able to control the voting audience like we are the stepford wives??

In an article on Livenews Thanh said:

"I’ve been through this before… the touring and signings and appearances and
crazy timetables because we toured in six different countries,” Bui told
LIVENEWS.com.au“But what goes with that territory is that people expect more
form you and the judges… they were really hard on me, it was either touchdown or nothing, there was no middle ground for me.”

Other quotes from an exit interview on News.com.au included " I know that I'm not the weakest performer there and even on Sunday night I know that I wasn't the weakest performance on the night,''

Look guys if you want to feel loved join a Landmark course. The judges are not there to raise their self esteem.

Also Mark Holden would not have given Thanh Bui a touchdown for his John Farnham cover. Guys get over yourselves.

Natalie Bassingthwaite Got Fugged.

So You Think You Can Dance Australia host Natalie Bassingthwaite has had the dubious honour of getting a panning by the Fug Girls on their very popular website gofugyourself.com.
In a post titled So You Think You Can Fug Australia the hilarious Fuggers have a go at Natalie's shoes.
"And here, she is wearing what can only be called EXTREME GLADIATORS. They
would be awesome if I wasn't so scared of them. I mean, those shoes are going to
awaken in the night and come after you. They are going to run over your patent
leather pumps with no regard for the blood they've spilt in their quest for
dominance of your closet. These shoes will take over your LIFE. These shoes are
RUTHLESS."

I am surprised the did not mention the matching lipstick and dress.
They labelled their blog "strange foreign stars". Ouch.

Has Sophie Monk Got Trout Pout?

Has reality TV star Sophie Monk gone all Hollywood on us and got a trout pout? She always had big lips but these do look a little enhance.
Sophie is in town to promote underwear to keep your flab in. Not sure I get the connection of slender Sophie with Shapers, but then again I don't get the connection of a gorilla banging on drums to promote Cadbury chocolate.
Story of her underwear promotion on Daily Tele Website. Also here is an interview where she says she is a dud in bed.
Now another thing I am not getting is the supposed Nigel Lythgoe and Sophie Monk liaison it has as much reality to it as her dating Ryan Seacrest.
Anyhow The Herald Sun has an article saying Nigel is begging Bonnie to get back with him!
Now I know she is keen see previous post. If a reconciliation means she is not a judge on So You Think You Can Dance Australia, I will be happy with that. Or maybe he can train her into talking in sound bites. Last season she was notorious for yabbering on.

Australian Idol - Season 6 - And now there were seven

Who on Australian Idol uses the most botox? Is it Kyle, Marcia or Teale as none of there foreheads move. To be fair to Marcia and Kyle other parts of their faces do move. Teale needs to become more animated. I think this is the reason he keeps on landing in the bottom 3.

Another one who is having a hard time getting her personality to the voters is Sophie Patterson. If she is pitching for a record contract I am not sure record producers would have been to impressed when she pondered after her performance last night that she didn't know how to connect with the audience. I thought the aim of this show was to promote yourself.

Bottom three were Teale, Sophie and Thanh Bui, with Thanh being the one who was punted.

Jessica Mauboy sang her new single. I thought she looked fab, but did not like the song. Maybe I am just an old fogey.

Reality Tidbits

Mark Holden Speaks Out Since Leaving Idol - He is working with the Hoff so that must be some compensation.

In an article on news.com.au Mark Holden breaks his silence about being sacked from Idol. It shows you can be dumped and behave with dignity. In other Mark Holden news he has asked Idol judges to donate $10,000 to a charity if they use the touch down phrase. Full story here.

Sarah Murdoch To Host Australia's Next Top Model
Another uber model in Sarah Murdoch will take over the hosting duties on Australia's Next Top Model. Sarah appears to have negotiated a better contract then Jodhi as she will also be a producer. I suppose it helps if you husbands family owns part of the network. Full story on another Murdoch owned media site the Daily Telegraph.

So You Think You Can Dance Australia, Sydney auditions.
Two hundred dancers turned up to the Sydney auditions for SYTYCD Au on Saturday. Source here.

Australian Idol - Rock Night

Tonight was Rock night and the boys from INXS, Tim Ferris and Kirk Pengilly were mentoring the Idol's on stage craft. I did not know which one of them looked sillier Tim with his sunglasses on in the studio or Kirk with his John Waters type moustache.

This pair are obviously comfortable on reality TV since their time doing Rock Star. Has there been one major Australia singer from the '80's who has not been on a reality TV show. Channel 7 on their singing show It Takes Two wheels them out regularly.

Luke - Are You Going To Go My Way - Lenny Kravitz.
Luke has an advantage in this competition as he does not consider himself a musician, he is just stoked to be there and just goes for it each week. He picks the songs he picks are mainstream but it appears to be working.

This week was no exception, and rock night was a natural fit for him.

The judges who for weeks looked on him with wry amusement, thinking he would not stick around for long, now know he will be on Idol for a while. He is yet to be in the bottom three. Dicko now taking him more seriously gave him some constructive criticism about getting more light and shade in his voice. I still don't think he can win the competition and there has to be a train wreck performance in him at some stage. Maybe big band night?

Thanh Bui - Shadow of A Day - Linkin Park

Thanh after winning Cadbury Star of the Week wanted to stick with his winning formula of playing the piano whilst performing.

However, Tim and Kirk as they try and add value tell Thanh to start at the piano and move away in the middle of the song. They clearly thought they were giving him some original, rock star advice. However Wes Carr did this in week one and got criticised for it.

Since the mentors told him to do it the judges could not shitbag the manuvour this time.

I am not getting Thanh I thought the rendition was dull. Kyle summed it up nicely when he said he looked around the audience "and no one cared that much." and "Something's missing."

Sophie Patterson - Anna's Song - Silverchair

Well Sophie just sung her way into the bottom three. She really needs to take some tips from Luke Dickens regarding song choice. Yes she wants to be shown as being unique but as she has been just avoiding eviction maybe she needs to rethink her strategy.

Yes it was well sung but all her songs are really starting to blend together. Apparently Silverchair is difficult to sing so was complimented for that, but Dicko said she needs to show more personality. Kirk said she needs to work on her stage craft.

Teale Jakubenko - Slide - Goo Goo Dolls

I know his seven brothers get him - but I don't. This song is great and the lyrics are so sexy and he is just not sexy. However Marcia seems to think he is, but then again I am not on the same drugs as her.

The guitar helps and it does give him a bit more grunt - however I thought his vocals were average. I think Dicko mentioned the "tedious" word in his judging comments.

Kirk was disappointed as Teale rejected their stage craft advice.

Roshani Priddis - The Pretender - Foo Fighters

Stylist Sheridan Tyler struck again with a shocking top that made the petite Roshani shoulders look broad and her boobs look lopsided. She said she was stretching herself, and she did. Marcia and Dicko gave her a standing ovation. After landing in the bottom three last week she needed to pull something out of her bag of tricks.

Wes Carr - Desire - U2

For the first half of the song I was thinking this was one of Wes's weaker songs. But call me a harmonica slut after he blew a few bars on that and then went into the sultry Desire chorus I thought he was great.

Judges said it was the best performance of the night.

Chrislyn Hamilton - Don't Speak - No Doubt

So she gets criticised for picking a pop song for rock week, but wasn't this song on the list they were given? From my understanding Sophie was the only one to pick a song not on the list.

I thought the opening was a bit out of tune, but it was much better as the song went on. It was overacted, she needs to give the school musical moves the flick.

Mark Spano - Sex Is On Fire - Kings of Leon

I have to confess I have never heard of this song and Andrew G said it was number five on the charts. He would know he does the Top 40 countdown. Mark is a huge INXS fan and quite rightly was pretty excited about meeting them. Ironically he would have been the perfect candidate for their reality TV show Rock Star when INXS were looking for a new lead singer.

Bottom three:
Sophie Patterson, Thanh Bui, Roshani Priddis.
